Kigali 8 November 2013
Today President Paul Kagame opened a two-day retreat for Cabinet members on Ndi Umunyarwanda campaign themed “Critically examining our dark history towards shaping a bright future: Leadership responsibility in driving Ndi Umunyarwanda”.
At the opening of the retreat, President Kagame told Cabinet members that the aim of the Ndi Umunyarwanda initiative is to discuss about our problems as Rwandans and find sustainable solutions.
“We are who we are as a nation and we can’t change that. What we can change is choices we make about our lives. We can’t just solve easy problems and ignore their root causes,” he said.
This retreat comes after the one held by Parliament’s in Gabiro last month on the same topic. Ndi Umunyarwanda is an initiative that was born out of the recent YouthConnektDialogue, which aimed at looking beyond what divides Rwandans to have a nation built on trust, to have open dialogue, telling the truth, repentance, forgiveness and healing to strengthen the culture of accountability as well as unity and reconciliation.
